An exercise technique created by Joseph H. Pilates in the early part of the 20th century, Pilates emphasizes stronger muscles, increased flexibility, and improved posture.
The Pilates method consists of hundreds of exercises which can be selected and modified to suit the individual. For every person doing—or thinking about doing—Pilates, there are exercises that will strengthen, stabilize, and challenge his or her unique body.
At Seattle's Greenlake Pilates, exercise begins with the fundamentals of safe and healthy movement, effective breathing, and neutral spine positioning. Building on this strong foundation, clients safely progress to more rigorous and demanding Pilates exercises.
You are an individual and it is our ambition to create an environment and exercise program that will challenge and help you to reach your unique and specific health and fitness goals.

Hi! My name is Leslie Kooy. I am owner of and an instructor at Greenlake Pilates. Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit our website!
After coming to Pilates in 2002, it didn’t take me long to realize I'd discovered my new career path. I had known for years that I wanted a vocation that would allow me to stay active and fit, engage both my mind and body, and help others improve their quality of life. Pilates has offered all of these things and more. Born with a congenital hip defect, I found that time was taking its toll on my hip joint. Walking for any distance, sitting cross-legged, and sometimes even sleeping had become painful. Today, I no longer consider my hip defective, feel virtually unlimited in my activities, and credit Pilates with the change!
My training comes from Bodycenter Studios in Fremont. After much research, I realized that the philosophy behind the STOTT Method of Pilates matched my own. Anatomically-based, the program offers over 500 exercises, exercise preps, and modifications which allow me to select and fine-tune just the right workout for each unique individual and body. Working at a safe and efficient level, each client progresses toward his or her goals. With additional training in “Injuries and Special Populations”, I'm pleased to work with people of all ages, fitness levels, and ranges of experience and enjoy the diversity of personalities with whom I work.

My name is Angela Dismuke and I am an instructor here at Greenlake Pilates. I received my Pilates training at Bodycenter Studios in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, as well as earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Wellness from Bastyr University.
Prior to embarking on my career in the Health and Wellness industry, I worked as an environmental scientist. As a scientist, I maintained a high level of commitment to health and fitness, enjoying a consistent cardiovascular and weight-training program combined with sound nutrition. However, though healthy and fit, I began feeling the affects of work place stress, burnout, and continuous fatigue. When my employer offered a voluntary separation package, I accepted the offer and used it as an opportunity to return to school to pursue my lifelong passion for exercise and healthy living. I chose Bastyr because it was the only school that offered a holistic approach to exercise, including emphasis on nutrition and lifestyle.
While in school, still unable to recover from constant fatigue thus unable to maintain my desired level of physical activity, I discovered Pilates. I found that Pilates allowed me to maintain a level of exercise that strengthened and conditioned my body without depleting energy and adding to the fatigue. As a result of this experience, my approach to exercise is gentle with an emphasis on deep breathing, anatomy and biomechanics, ultimately connecting the mind and body for holistic conditioning. The outcome is strength, suppleness, and body awareness, as well as a body that moves pain free and with ease.
I strive to combine my passion for both exercise and teaching to create personalized conditioning programs that meet each of my client’s needs. With Pilates, whether conditioning is for pre-surgery, rehabilitation, or overall wellness, you will experience the science and art of movement and exercise.
